A 3 day National  Workshop on the topic “ETHICAL AND WELFARE ISSUES IN ANIMAL USAGE IN BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH” was held in Veterinary College, Shivamogga organized by Department of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology.  Prof. H.D.Narayanaswamy, Honarable Vice Chancellor,Karnataka Veterinary Animaland Fisheries Sciences University, Bidar  inaugurated the workshop and informed that, the researchers involved in biomedical research should judiciaously and ethically use the animals to produce a reproducible research work. Dr.K.C.Veeranna, Registrar informed that the husbandry practice of the animals to be used in research should be very good to do a good research work. Dr. H.R.V.Reddy informed to the participants that, fish can also be used as a better alternate laboratory model for many biomedical research work.

Dr.Prakash Nadoor, Dean of Veterinary College informed  that the workshop is helpful to the stakeholders from Veterinary Colleges, Medical Colleges, Pharmacy Colleges and also to the medical colleges.  He also informed that series of such programmes will be implemented for the benefit of the society in future also.

Dr.N.B.Shridhar, Organizing Secretary of the workshop and also the Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology brought to the notice of all that, there are about 57 participants in the workshops from different parts of India and the speakers are very eminent from industry and academia who are involved in biomedical research. He also requested the participants to get the benefit of the workshop to the maximum extent.

Dr.Sunilchandra, Dr.Prakash, Dr Revanasiddappa, Dr Punith and supportive faculty of Veterinary College, Shivamogga assisted in organizing the workshop.
